well i pulled the front cover off the car again and id some measuring. the car will be getting hood pins and loosing the factory latch to make room for the intercooler. this thing will go from headlight to headlight, top to bottom.

update.
i may be able to fit the intercooler with out loosing the factory latch. i still may put hood pins on it though. it will depend on how much i trust the latch if im able to retain it.

some of the front bracing has been removed along with the entire a/c system except for the compressor. that will be on its way out soon enough. power steering cooler was pushed out of the way to test fit the intercooler. the headlight brackets will need to be modded for the intercooler to fit. thats a job for another day.

also worked on the front bumper cover a bit. i fixed the cracks on the driver side of it to start out. it took 6 brackets and 28 pop rivets. its not pretty but i will be modding a front license plate mount to be installed in that spot. this will cover all the rivets with zero bodywork needed. the center section of the "mouth" of the cover was also in pretty rough shape. i ran a 1" piece of tape around the front edge and trimmed it out larger removing the entire center of it. i then installed mesh screen in the opening.the best part. i used gutter screen since its the same and the mesh they sell in the ricer section of auto parts stores. $2.99 compared to $49.99 was some nice savings. i also opened up the top of the front cover a bit more than it was from the factory. screen is getting installed in this opening also. the larger openings should help a bit with the intercooler but i know it wont be noticeable. the main reason for installing the screen is to protect the intercooler a bit from debris that i may find out on the road.

i have taken some pics so far and will post them when i take them off the camera.

good news bad news

good news
i done an oil change using 5w20 and added 1/2 a can of seafoam today. i let the car idle for a while just to see if the seafoam and thin oil would allow the hla's to pump up. they did!! :D the hla noise is now gone.

bad news
with the hla noise gone you can hear a very solid knock in the motor. its coming from the rear of the motor. i dont know what it is at this time but if removing the rear valve cover later doesnt tell me something good then the motor will have to come out.

more good news
if the motor has to be swapped then i will drop a klde in place of the klze. this will give me a lower compression ratio and be a bit more forgiving to the boost.
